Uncle Phil is far more a father to Will then Lou ever was. Lou is a wimp! I watch this scene and can't help but think of my 4 years old nephew in Vietnam, Ken, sitting there with his mother (my SIL). His daddy An is nowhere around. An is off drinking, smoking, and probably will be passed out on the street by evening. My SIL is a single mother. She kicked An out and divorced him because of the very behavior I described. Fortunately, my SIL' s father, Ken's grandfather, is there for Ken...along with myself... except I am halfway around the world in USA. I am Ken's Uncle....Ken has an Uncle and Aunt (my wife of 20 years) who really care for him. We do what we can.

It’s a shame that Will’s father shows up to see his son but hasn’t been a father figure for him! That’s really hurting for anybody!😢

Forgiveness can't work and healing can't work without a hug. The words are gone, and the hug bond us again. Son will forgive his Father, and will see peace, and yes. Life will go on. Son will be stronger.

I don't know why everyone thinks this is the best episode. I don't know my pops, and I'd be damn if I received him with open arms. "I'd be like you found your way back from the store sucker 😑"

Will Smith was a VERY junior actor at this point. He was so bad, he memorized everyone's lines, and , according to James Avery, he would mouth the words of the other actors lines before saying his. Avery was like "Uh, no. You need to stop that" So he actually coached Will on how to act and not do that. Will took the lessons to heart, and became better and better with each performance. Will Smith remembers "During this scene, when I was done with my tirade about my "father", Avery and I embraced. He whispered in my ear "Now THAT was some damn fine acting, son." It was then I knew I finally got it.

I always had a great relationship with my dad but this scene chokes me up everytime.

I don't know which is more upsetting: Lou acting like an irresponsible ass or Will's angry ranting and then breaking up. I only know that Lou is not father material. Will does just fine without him.

Will was lucky that his Dad walked away. Try being raised by someone who didn't want you but also had no choice but to stay.

I stopped watching after Lou. This is tv history. You don’t edit and put background music. Shame on this channel.

The most powerful and saddest moment of Fresh Prince in my opinion.

The clip was messed up by putting in the music. This isn't Family Matters where there's background music for a dramatic scene. What made the scene powerful was the sheer silence & hearing nothing but tears being shed by the cast, crew & audience.

I grew up without my father and everything that will said is so accurate. It hits me so hard. That line that I am going to be a better father and there is not a damn thing he can teach me about raising kids is the best line. When I had my kids I made sure they know I love them and I would be there for them every step of the way. My son gave me a Father’s Day card that literally brought me to tears. That proved to me that my way is working.

So grateful for my Dad when I was a kid he was building his company always got home late but every weekend he made it a point to take me out and was always present he always called there is nothing that can stop anyone from being a part of their childs life
